The Oak Lawn neighborhood in Dallas, Texas has a long and rich history. The area was originally inhabited by the Caddo and Comanche peoples, and later became home to a number of ranching families. In the late 19th century, the Oak Lawn area was annexed by the city of Dallas, and development began in earnest. The neighborhood quickly became a popular destination for upper-class residents, and many of the mansions and estates that were built during this period are still standing today. In recent years, the Oak Lawn neighborhood has undergone something of a revival, with new businesses and restaurants moving in and older buildings being restored. Today, the neighborhood provides a wide spectrum of lifestyles in its various subdivisions from Perry Heights, to Turtle Creek, to West Village and State Thomas. Oak Lawn is home to some of the most lively and active neighborhoods in town.
