About Old East Dallas
East Dallas is one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city, with a history that dates back to the early days of the Republic. The area was first settled by farmers and ranchers, who found the rich soil and mild climate perfect for agriculture. In the late 19th century, the arrival of the railroad brought new industry and prosperity to East Dallas, and the neighborhood soon became home to a booming textile industry. Today, East Dallas has come to encompass the entire territory around white rock lake in addition to its humble roots near Swiss Avenue and Bryan Place. The tree-lined streets and beautiful Victorian homes are a reminder of its historic roots and serve as a reminder of the diverse, eclectic population that resides there.
